There's tons of spam on da blogs! Pffft!

On the top two blogs I checked, there are hundreds of spam links at the end of the blogs.

I read the blogs although admittedly I am a bit late in getting to some. But that's ok, cus they're still there aren't they. Unfortunately, so are the spam links. :-(

Maybe spam that appears on boards like this and guestbooks and have you what not but they'll sell it to you if you don't have it or even if you do or at least promise to sell it to you even though broken promises may be the rule rather than the exception.

Destroy spam before it destroys the internet... or this board.

It's ok to remove this blog when and if the spam links are removed.

(I wonder how many if any spam links will appear on this blog.)

We get some spammers, every

We get some spammers, every so often. I put the user on "moderate" so that their posts do not appear on the board, rather than closing out the username entirely; if they can't log in, they end up signing up for another username.

Then I take a look at the IP they post from, and block that IP from ALL our servers.

If it gets to be a bigger problem, there's a drop-in CAPTCHA module we can use. A CAPTCHA is one of those images, where you have to figure out what the letters and numbers are, and then you type them in. But they're hard enough to figure out on a PC, and some of our users are on WebTV, which often distorts images, making them even harder to see. If it gets to be a problem, we can turn on that module - but I don't think Sherry wants to, not yet.

Sometimes there's little to be done. I don't know very much about these type of boards except what I've seen, and some what I've seen is ugly with boards ruined imo with spam.

Years ago when I had a couple of guestbooks, I was able to control an influx of spam by setting the option to moderated, i.e., approving each entry before it was entered in the guestbook... and deleting old spam.

At that time I would often either not allow email addresses for the protection of the people making entries or delete email addresses that had been entered. I think in retrospect I may have been wrong to do this.

Deal with spam as best we can. Some of us have different methods to handle it.

Anyway, I find your explanation Paul acceptable. It is of cpurse yuur call... or Sherry's you indicate also.

Thanks for your reply.
